Michael P. Vidette, Jr.

Michael P. Vidette, Jr., 85, of Duxbury, passed away peacefully on August 3, at his home after a brief illness

    Born and raised in Lexington, Massachusetts, Michael graduated from North Cambridge Catholic High School in 1958. He served in the Army National Guard and continued his education at Burdett Junior College, Suffolk University, and Suffolk Law School.

Michael began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Plymouth before opening a private law practice specializing in estate planning and probate law.

     In 1970, he married the love of his life, Merlie Ann Wise of Newton, Massachusetts. Together they built a life in Duxbury centered on family, friends, and community.

     He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Monica Neibert, also of Duxbury, her husband, Edward; and his granddaughters, Samantha and Tabitha, who lovingly knew him as "Papa." He also cherished the companionship of the family's many Golden Retrievers throughout the years.

     Michael was an avid runner for more than 50 years and participated in the Falmouth Road Race over 30 times, also volunteering at the event. He was passionate about fitness, taught teen weightlifting classes, coached middle school cross-country, and served as a substitute teacher, and volunteered in his granddaughter’s kindergarten class, positively influencing many young people. He was a member of the Duxbury Jaycees and the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and was known for his warmth, generosity, and love of animals.

     A devout Catholic, Michael found fellowship and faith in the Miramar community.

     He was predeceased by his parents Michael Sr and Anne, his sister Judeth Lofria, and his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Merlie. 

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, August 16, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St. North Plymouth.
